Self-development: The need to come out of your comfort zone sometimes

And for a good reason too…

I find that sometimes being too comfortable with routine can make my brain feel like it is not developing.

I don't know about you, but I just feel like I’m stuck and am not really experiencing new things.

Being in your comfort zone is really good because you can do things with your eyes closed. However, as for me, after a while, it gets to a point where I just have to get out of the rot.

There is also another example, or, shall I say, scenario, where you are in a relationship and you know you have to keep things going and moving, and the routine is dampening things a bit.

There’s always a need for fresh input, fresh perspective to solve problems, etc., but if you or I come out of our so-called comfort zone, we will not learn anything new either about ourselves, others, or things in general.

So I would say it’s always good to challenge oneself once in a while.

A while ago, I read that when we learn new things, there are new neural pathways being created in the brain

I find that very fascinating because I know this theory actually applies to learning languages, and as a result of new neural pathways being created, you will have increased capacity.

How can you come out of your comfort zone?

There are so many examples online, but the way I do it is as follows if I want to get a fresh perspective on creativity:

I watch documentaries on topics I’m actually not too familiar with.

For example, if there’s an area in nature that I have no clue about, I may choose to watch a documentary in that area.

OR

I watch a documentary on travel, indigenous lifestyles, different cultures etc

Ways to get out your comfort zone

You can set new goals for yourself
You can actually make small changes to your daily habit
You can research new experiences by checking them out before you actually want to do them
You can think of ideas that would force you to do what you would not normally do. For example, I want to lose weight but I keep driving my car everywhere I go then maybe, a good start is to get a bus pass and get on the bus or use a different route that you would normally use to and from work and so forth.
So yeah, thanks for reading!
